Preschooler playground at the sensory table video:

For this observation I chose to do a checklist and a Narrative observation to help distinguish how these children are behaving all together and also individually. The Narrative observation is not quit as detailed like the Anecdotal record is but it still provides the right information you will need to know about this observation video I chose to observe. This video clip I found was from YouTube.com, and it’s about these four kids who are playing at a sensory table. A sensory table is a small table for primarily ages four to six and you play with sand in this particular sensory table.

Checklist:

Talking- **** (all 4 kids in video are talking most of the time)

Narrative:

Throughout this observation video I have located on You Tube, I noticed that the kids were very engaged in the small toys they were playing with for most of the observational video. The toys were many different colors so it was difficult to identify what type they were playing with but they were playing at a sensory table. A sensory table, from the looks of it, had multiple rainbows colored beads just like the toys they were playing with. All of the four children playing together were getting a long just fine until a little boy was trying to help a peer use her toy she was playing with and she got angry with him, so she yelled at him a little bit. It seemed like the kids helped each other out at other times but at this point this little girl was not having it. The teacher did not do anything about this incident even though it was small. Yet, the teacher cam to check up on the kids playing once and a while just not in this situation. The four children liked what they were doing for that time being probably because it was hands on and kids are really into the hands on applying and it’s more interesting to them. In this scene meaning they are using their fine motor skills more than the other skills they have. I also noticed that there was only one incident where the child needed help from the teacher and it was one of the few times where the teacher cam ever to check up on the kids playing with the sensory table.

These children fit the ages of the four to five year old because as myself and the rest of the class have learned, these ages of children is a great time for children to interact with each other and learn how to make bonds. By having these four children play at a sensory table I think it’s a great way for these children to practice interacting with one another in a smaller environment. Finally, I think a Narrative observation method id helpful for teachers because it’s short and sweet in some ways, making sure they get their point across.
