Observation #5:
Observation #5:
For my fifth observation I chose to do it on a video called “Older Toddlers Circle Time.” I decided to focus on a little girl who was wearing light pink pants and polkadot shit that was black and white. She was sitting right next to her teacher so it made it easier for me to observe her directly instead of having any distractions from any of the other children around. I got this video clip form all the other observation methods I have done for this portfolio project. I based this observation video off of a Frequency Count, or a Check List.
Frequency Count:
Circle time (good or bad) * Good behavior!
Paying attention *
Laughing ***
Talking * - Only once
Playing *
Reading
Being engaged **
Moving around ***
Side Notes:
-
When the little girl is doing the activities, she seems to be very calm and no misbehaving.
-
Copying what the other toddler students are doing to maybe see if she can do it any better than them.
-
Good behavior throughout the whole class time.
-
Looks like she likes to be in class.
-
Does not talk much because she in circle time which makes sense.
Anecdotal:
Right off the bat this little girl I chose to observe loves to be in the classroom learning. She is always paying attention to what her teacher is doing and also as to what her other classmates are doing. Except in the first scene when she is sitting up and paying attention to the person holding the camera, this fascinating device intrigues every child in the classroom. She does not talk that much during the video only when they are doing a funny activity or something, only laughing along with the rest of the class. But maybe she is a very talkative and friendly girl form observing. At this age of a child’s life, they like to play on their own to get to know the feel and sense of things without any help. In was thinking that maybe she isn’t so talkative and not paying attention as much is because she is focusing on what is else is in the classroom so she is getting distracted. At one point in this video they do an activity where they have to wave there legs in the air and sit on their behind. The little toddler girl does a good job at staying balanced and this is normal for a three year old to be good at because they are just at the right height and sometimes weight to be able to do these kinds of things. As I’ve said in the previous explanations of observation methods where I have use a Check List/Frequency Count, this type of observation method gives a really good grasp and understanding of just what are the physical reasons why a child is acting the way they. And as I will be working with kinds in the future I think I am going to be using this method of observation because it is the most clearest to me.
