Observation #4:

A Westwood Pre-School Classroom 2-

For this fourth observation I chose to do it on another observation video I found on the YouTube channel. This video is approximately 10 minutes long and I observed a little boy in a blue on blue Puma sweatshirt.

Checklist:

Laughing:  * * * (Happened multiple times)

Sitting: * (Throughout most of the video)

Walking: *

Running: 0

Doing the activities: * * *

Paying attention: * *

Side Notes:

  • The little by is doing the lessons with the class somewhat most of the time during this video.

  • He really likes the Chinese New Year activities because of the playful dragon that a lady is dressed up as.

  • Likes the Bear Hunt song they do at the end as a class.

Running Record:

During this video I observed a child of about the age of three or four in a small classroom setting. The little buy was wearing a blue on blue Puma sweatshirts with navy blue running pants. Throughout this entire video clip I came across, I noticed this little boy was laughing, sitting, walking, running around, talking with peers, doing the activities and paying attention. While I was keeping track of this certain little boy I was noticing that he was only participating or being engaged in certain activities that he liked. For example, he lived the Chinese New Year activity with the dragon because it was exciting and colorful for him to watch. He was not really in the mood when the teacher was just talking and she had the kids sit on the ground in a circle, I think he found those parts very boring for himself to sit through. This little boy seemed very excited to be in a classroom setting as soon as he walked into the room. He had a huge smile on his face because he was probably ready to learn and that he was accompanied with his friends.

I think a Check List observation method is good for teachers to use because they can keep track thoroughly and neatly how a child in actin gin all different aspects of how they would typically act in a school day. A Check List can also help new and developed teachers see if a child needs more help in a certain lesson or maybe it’s just in need of some help paying attention. I would definitely use this observation method because it’s a simple way to gather data on a certain child you want to focus on or maybe it’s the whole class. To make sure you are  giving the right feedback and for me this is the best way to do that.
